About Project Hope
Project HOPE is a Street Medicine team that provides on site high quality healthcare for the homeless population in Wheeling, WV. We conduct weekly street rounds visiting homeless camps and homeless shelters. We have exam rooms inside: Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center, Northwood homeless shelter, Salvation Army, and YSS, Inc. Winter Freeze. We hold a clinic each Saturday at Catholic Charities.
Our mission statement: Ensuring equal access to medical care for un-sheltered men, women, and children. Bridging the gap between the homeless and the health care system through direct street outreach. Creating relationships by dispensing medical care with compassion and respect, while maintaining dignity.
Our goals: • Improve access to medical care for the homeless, by linking them to primary care providers. • Breakdown stereotypes by promoting positive dialogues between the homeless and providers. • Create an environment of dignity and respect for the homeless and providers. • Promote health literacy, healthier lifestyles, and overall well-being. • Provide education for students of various disciplines to practice street medicine.
