The Wizarding Run

OCTOBER 6 – WIZARDING RUN @ 8:00am and 1 Mile @ 7:30am

TO BENEFIT OZARK CENTER / TURNAROUND RANCH

Grab your wand, hop on your broom, and join us for the inaugural Wizarding Run in Downtown Joplin, benefiting the Ozark Center Turnaround Ranch! Take a magical journey through town with wizardly sights and sounds along the way and a detour through a dark and sinister alley in the last mile! Distances include a 5K - hence the 3 and one tenths name - and a 1 Mile Fun Run. This 5K course begins and ends at 511 S. Main Street. Main Street will be closed to traffic. Costumes are highly encouraged!

Participants of the 5K will receive a one of kind event shirt in the color of their choice: RED, GREEN, YELLOW, or BLUE *, a spectacular FINISHER MEDAL, a custom WAND, and a FREE BUTTERBEER (courtesy of Instant Karma) at the finish line! Butterbeer will be available in both non-alcoholic and alcoholic versions. *Shirt color choices will only be available until September 24. After September 24, shirts will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

Participants of the 1 Mile Fun Run will receive a one of kind event shirt in the color of their choice: RED, GREEN, YELLOW, or BLUE and a FREE BUTTERBEER at the finish line. Fun Run participants 12 years of age and younger will receive a wand at the finish line.

POST RACE FESTIVAL: The run/walk will funnel right into the post-race festival, which will include lots of craft and food vendors, all selling wizardly inspired items.

1. Instant Karma is opening up just for us with a special wizardly inspired breakfast/brunch menu for those who want to grab a bite to go along with their free butterbeer! Menu prices will vary.

2. Vendors will be set up along Main Street selling magical items including pastries, crafts, and more. 

3. Arkansas Razorback Quidditch team demonstration. Time to be announced.

Packet Pick-up:

Packet pick-up will be held on Friday, October 5 at the Joplin Empire Market from 10:00a.m.-7:00p.m. (931 E 4th Street, Joplin, Missouri 64801) as well as on race day at the race start beginning at 6:00a.m.

Chip Timing:

Chip timing provided for all registered 5K participants. 

Awards:

5 year age category increments! Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female in the 5K. Age category awards will be given for the following age categories: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+

The amazing Bob Brown with Boca Enterprises will be partnering up with the fantastic Resonation to provide an unmatched event atmosphere!

Photographer:

The awesome JV Photography will be on course capturing your finish. All photographs are free to download!

Virtual 5K Option Available!

Runners who can't attend race day can REGISTER for the Virtual 5K.  Virtual runners are not eligible for overall or age category awards.  Virtual runner directions:

1. Run your virtual race distance anytime during the month of October.
2. On or after race day (October 6), post your time result on either the Wizarding 3 1/10 Event page or on your My Activities dashboard on LocalRaces.com.
3. Our staff will then mail the virtual race packet. Virtual runner packets will include event t-shirt, custom wand, custom finisher medal, and race bib.

FAQ:

1. Are strollers allowed on course?

   Yes! Please feel free to take your little one/s along for the run. 

2. Is this a pet friendly event?

    Absolutely! Well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed on the race course. 

3. Where should I park?

     Main Street from 2nd to 7th will be closed to traffic. Parking is available on Joplin Avenue and Virginia Avenue.

4.  Can I walk the race?

     Of course! This is a family oriented event with a great mix of walkers and runners.

5.   Will the race be cancelled if the weather is bad?

       We will run rain or shine, wet or dry! Only in the event of severe weather including lightning will we postpone the start until the weather has passed.
