About This Activity
“Project HOPE doesn’t treat the ‘homeless,’ the ‘addict,’ or even the ‘former addict.’ They treat PEOPLE… people who might have experienced these things.” -Kate Marshall, Catholic Worker, House of Hagar
The professionals at Project HOPE, seek to help homeless individuals and families in our community. Besides offering on site medical care with weekly street and shelter rounds, and a weekly free clinic, we empower our friends without permanent shelter. We provide them with a team of champions to connect them to resources to help them reintegrate into the community. While we offer these services, we still have so much to accomplish. We have a future goal of establishing a medical respite and hospice for the homeless to recover and to die a death with dignity.
We are hosting our third annual Winter Walk: This event is an opportunity for our Street Medicine Team to educate our community on homelessness and the issues they face. It is also an opportunity to raise funds toward our goal of a medical respite and hospice for the homeless. Our walk will take placeon February 29th, 2020, and we need your support to raise funds and awareness for our Street Medicine program.

Project HOPE Street Medicine Program
Project HOPE is a Street Medicine team that cares for the homeless population in Wheeling, WV. HOPE stands for the Homeless Outreach Partnership Effort. We operate by going on rounds to homeless camps and homeless shelters, dispensing medical care. We also run multiple exam rooms, at the local soup kitchen for example, to provide privacy for our patients. All patients deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of socioeconomic status.
Our mission statement:
1. Ensuring equal access to medical care for unsheltered men, women, and children.
2. Bridging the gap between the homeless and the health care system through direct street outreach.
3. Creating relationships by dispensing medical care with compassion and respect, while maintaining dignity.
