Starting on the service road adjacent to the start of the Virginia Capital Trail, the course takes a quick left onto the Colonial Parkway towards Jamestown Island, crossing over the causeway. Runners will enjoy views of the James River on their right and Powhatan Creek on their left. Just past the Historic Jamestowne Visitor Center, the race route takes a right onto the short loop of the Jamestown Island tour roads, with an out-and-back section of the long loop to make the exact 10K distance. The course returns the same route to a finish in front of Billsburg Brewery at the James City County Marina. The course is fast and totally flat, and outside of the causeway, is a wooded, shaded scenic route with wetlands crossings on wooden bridges, unsurpassed in historical beauty. The course will be certified an exact 10K to USATF measurement standards. All runners and walkers must be off the Island by 9 a.m., so the race time limit is one hour, 45 minutes. A one mile fun run will start five minutes after the 10K and will be an out-and-back of the service road parallel to Jamestown Road.
PRE-RACE EVENT: Friday, August 23, 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.: Pick up your race packets & explore the grounds of Historic Jamestowne after hours! Speak to archaeologists about the latest discoveries and enjoy Billsburg Brewery craft beer, and food and refreshments from Carrot Tree Kitchens.
