About This Activity
We are a 501(c)(3) Non-profit Public Charity for the benefit of children with cancer. Formed in 2005, we have worked a decade to improve the lives of these children and their families. We have no paid employees and are supported entirely by volunteers and public donations.
Today, tomorrow and decades from now, a child or adolescent will receive a cure for a previously deadly cancer or life-threatening blood disease and this child will go on to see another rainbow, chase another butterfly, and celebrate another birthday. Some things are precious.
Our Hospital Visits
We give the children the gift of “just a little time away” from the uncertainty, pain, and fear of their disease, we give them a chance to just be a kid — a chance to be playful, creative, and entertained. They are removed, if only for a little while, from the world of x-rays and I.V.s. We work closely with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Children’s Hospital Orange County providing patients with programs and services throughout the year.
From Maddi’s Closet Emergency Fund
“Your child has cancer.” The words are devastating. Within seconds your world is turned upside down. Simply catching your breath becomes an overwhelming challenge; much less dealing with the realities of the new normal. Many families are simply not in a position to handle the stress of managing a job, their other children and family members, the erratic and demanding schedule, and the costs of providing the child with their “special needs” not being met by other assistance resources. We help by providing special ambulatory equipment, uncovered prescription costs, protective helmets, therapy tricycles, flu shots for parents so they can remain bedside during the flu season, and more.
Maddi’s Closet Supports Patient Emotional Needs through Bead Program
Our funding expanded the existing Beads of Courage Inpatient support program to include children receiving their treatment and services through the Outpatient Department at CHLA. Smiling 16 Year-old Alyssa, a patient at CHLA, proudly displays her Maddi “Bead of Kindness” earned by agreeing to be the advocate for the cancer program.
“It’s nice to know that people care about kids with cancer.”
