About This Activity
The Old PA Turnpike commonly referred to as the “Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike” opened in 1940 and was billed as the “World’s Greatest Highway.” This 13-mile stretch of the turnpike became “abandoned” in 1968 when the Sideling Hill & Rays Hill Tunnels were bypassed due to traffic delays. The Old PA Turnpike was prominently featured in the 2009 post-apocalyptic movie “The Road” starring Viggo Mortensen. This unique attraction is a must-see destination in Pennsylvania.
The course is rolling and offers sweeping views of the Allegheny Mountain Range and the wilderness of Buchanan State Forest.
Restrooms & Aid Stations:
4 portable restrooms placed in the parking lot.
2 portable restrooms along the course. The course is an out & back so these can be utilized twice.
5 water stations along the course.
Available at the Cove Valley Travel Plaza alongside the Old PA Turnpike. The start & finish line is less than 200 meters from this parking lot.
Custom Finisher Medal
Medals will be given to the Top 5 Overall Male and Female Open & Masters Finishers. Medals will be mailed after the event.
