About This Activity

Townspeople! Thank you for joining us today for this special Town Meeting. I expect that you will extend the same courtesies while visiting the beautiful Dragonfly Inn that you do while we are in our regular meeting place. Our unexpected change of venue does grant us the wonderful opportunity to partake in a nibble or two from Sookie’s famous breakfast pastry buffet.

Over the last nine months the town we love so very much has been embarking upon an effort to build healthier lifestyles with the help of our very own Stars Hollow Running Club. We have walked, run and even crawled thousands of miles and in turn raised thousands of dollars for charities that share in the Stars Hollow spirit.

As we all come out of our Winter slumber to enjoy Spring’s fresh air it’s the perfect time to take on a big challenge.

In an early meeting discussing this race there was a conversation about each our reasons for getting out and pounding the pavement. I don’t think that you’ll be surprised to hear that Lorelai’s reason is Pop-Tarts. Lorelai’s daily steps are all devoted to a delicious frosted breakfast treat! With that one comment from Lorelai the folks from SHRC decided that they would honor the humble Pop-Tart with this Spring event.

“I can remember the first time I had a pop-tart. It was at my friend Erica Catcha's house, and she said, “do you want a pop-tart?" And I knew my mother would recoil at the very idea of me having a pop-tart. I could just picture her... And so, I had one. And I opened the little silver wrapper, and I took a bite, and I thought nothing had ever tasted so good. I thought it tasted like freedom. It tasted like I was my own person. The pop-tart tasted like freedom and rebellion and independence.”

The suggested run date for Taste of Rebellion is May 14th which is Mother’s Day here in the US. We think it’s the perfect day to run a Stars Hollow event and celebrate the women in your life.

Registration for this event will be $27 ($32 for international participants)

Registration will be open from 4/28 - 5/19. Registration slots are limited, so do not hesitate. Once this race has sold out it will be gone forever.

With your registration you will receive a race packet which includes a custom designed 3.5” medal with a custom sublimated ribbon, a race bib professionally printed on Tyvek material and a tiny token or two from some of Stars Hollow’s favorite sons and daughters. There is also be the option (outside of registration) to purchase one of our limited edition T-shirts.

As has become custom, we have turned to one of our beloved townspeople to help Stars Hollow Running Club choose the charity that will benefit from the proceeds of their race. Sookie will be the “patron saint” of the Taste of Rebellion 15K, and she has chosen Blessings in a Backpack as the charity benefactor for this event.

Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.

“One in five American children faces food insecurity — more than the populations of New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago combined. During the school week, most of these children depend on the federal free and reduced meal program their school offers. Sometimes, the meals at school are the only ones they get. When the school closes it doors on Friday afternoon, many of these children go home to empty cupboards and empty bellies for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday morning. Who will feed them this weekend?

Blessings in a Backpack is a 501 C (3) non-profit organization currently feeding over 89,000 children in nearly 1100 schools in 47 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The program is a hybrid of private sector funding and public partnership carried out in schools. We are feeding the future of America, one school at a time.

**$100 feeds one child on the weekends for one 38-week school year through the Blessings in a Backpack program. The Results: Nourished Kids Ready to Learn.”
