About This Activity

The Nineteenth Annual Museum of Aviation Foundation Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K Run/Walk will be held at the Museum of Aviation on Saturday, January 17, 2015. The races are sponsored by the Museum of Aviation Foundation and the Robins Pacers Running/Walking Club. The three races to be run on Robins Air Force Base next to the Museum of Aviation are part of the 2015 Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Series. The marathon course is USA Track and Field certified (Boston Marathon qualifier). The half marathon is also USA Track and Field certified.  Proceeds from the growing annual event benefit the Museum of Aviation, one of the largest education-focused aviation museums in the country.

“This is a great way to start the New Year with a run on a brisk winter morning,” said Patrick M. Bartness, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Museum of Aviation Foundation. “Trophies are awarded to the overall top three male and female finishers in each race, the overall top three male and female masters in each race, the top active duty military male and female in the marathon and the top three finishers in fourteen different age categories Six-person relay teams may also enter the Marathon.”

All participants receive a colorful short-sleeve shirt.  Those who register by January 11 will receive their shirt on race day.  Runners who finish the Marathon and Half-Marathon will receive a three-dimensional medallion with a red-white-and-blue ribbon.  The medal shows a Museum aircraft on one side with a place on the reverse side to engrave the runner’s name, date and finishing time.  The Marathon medals show an SR-71 ‘Blackbird’ reconnaissance plane and the Half-Marathon medals show an F-15 ‘Eagle’ fighter.

Event details and schedule

Disposable electronic chip timing will be used for all races. The start time for the Marathon is 8:00 am (6 hour cutoff). The Half-Marathon will start at 8:15 am and the 5K Run/Walk will start at 8:30 am. Patriotic opening ceremonies will be held in the Century of Flight Hangar.

Because the races are run on Robins Air Force Base, all runners are REQUIRED to show a valid ID when picking up race packets.  It's usually cold, so dress in layers.
