The SMJ Shining Star Scholarship Walk /Run Fundraiser is a VIRTUAL timed event. You can be a superhero by participating in our first walk/run race for scholars!!! COME JOIN US!
SUPPORT a scholar, your health and our 7 year anniversary. By participating, you are showing your passion for higher education and your health! Challenge a family member, tell a friend, coordinate a group and spread the word. Enjoy scenic routes in your neighborhood and tell us about it.
ABOUT THE SMJ SCHOLARSHIP FUND
SMJ Scholarship Fund and Shining Stars will provide annual scholarships to graduating seniors at North Chicago Community High School (NCCHS) who plan to pursue higher education.
"It takes a village to raise a child."
The mission of the SMJ Scholarship Fund and Shining Stars are to promote higher education for youth in east Lake County. The scholarship will have a special focus on graduating seniors at North Chicago Community High School.
To be a catalyst in the community in providing an opportunity for higher education opportunities in disadvantage areas and help them reach their full potential to become productive members of Lake County.
We believe by assisting youth with their educational costs, we reward their efforts and enhance their chances to holding the key to success in becoming leaders of tomorrow.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP?
If you are interested in the SMJ Scholarship Fund scholarship and will graduate from North Chicago Community High School, you can obtain an application from the guidance office. SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES ARE MARCH 31, 2016.
HOW ARE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS CHOSEN?
They are selected by the scholarship committee. Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic record, financial need, leadership particiaption, community activities, essay and career goals. The scholarship selection are awarded without regard to race, creed, gender, religious affiliation or disability. A special consideration is given to first generation students and/or low income students.

Event details and schedule
Race Day: Choose what day is convenient for you. Choose Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Awards: Overall Male and Female for individual Walk/Run. Masters Male and Female in standard age groups beginning with age 10 and under to 70 and over.
10 and under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over
STEP 1: You must send us your picture of participation and/or watch/GPS results by 12PM EST last day of Race (Sunday) of your 5K experience in order to claim your medal. (Don’t worry we have your age if you registered correctly)
STEP 2: Post a picture before or after the race if you dare!
STEP 3: If you are the winner in your category you will receive accolades on our page and your medal in the mail.
Timing and Results: Some suggestions for beginners. Download walk/run apps before the Race day. Common ones are Nike, Map My Run, and Run keeper.
