Pike's Peak Vertical Challenge
Tue, Dec 1, 2020
About This Activity
The Pike's Peak Vertical Challenge is a virtual climb up Pikes Peak (and other milestones along the way) via Jacob's Ladder in Cameron Park, Waco, TX. Each 88 step climb up Jacob's Ladder is approximately a 70 ft. elevation gain. So, to complete the 5,530 ft. trek up Pikes Peak you will be climbing Jacob's Ladder 79 times. For the technically inclined, we are using the mountain peak’s "prominence" (relative height) as the elevation gain.
You have from December 1, 2020 to January 17, 2021 to complete the challenge. No sweat! That’s just a little less than 2 climbs up Jacob’s Ladder per day (or 12 climbs per week). The first person to reach the top of Pike's Peak will get all the glory at the Waco Striders Awards Banquet on January 30, 2021.
There are several milestones on your journey to virtually climb Pike's Peak via Jacob's Ladder.
Climbs up Jacob's Ladder
Enchanted Rock (Fredericksburg)
Empire State Building
Guadalupe Peak (El Paso)
For those that want to go above and beyond Pike's Peak, here are few more milestones.
Note: To minimize congestion on Jacob’s Ladder, We recommend that you only climb UP Jacob’s Ladder. At the top, follow Sturgis Road down to the Redwood Shelter and then back to the bottom of Jacob’s Ladder. This will also give your legs a little time to recover from the climb. Please follow Covid-19 Social Distancing guidelines and have a safe virtual climb up Pike's Peak.
