Cocina sin Fronteras (a 501(c)(3) an affiliate nonprofit of the Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura [HACSB]), is hosting its second annual Haunted Housing Run/Walk on October 28, 2017 to support the HACSB’s Scholarship Program. All race proceeds benefit the program.
The Scholarship Program provides scholarships to residents of the HACSB’s public housing/affordable housing communities, and participants/household members of the Housing Choice Voucher program who are attending/will be attending a four-year college/university, community college, or technical/vocational school in the fall. The Scholarship Program awards six (6) scholarships a year. Three (3) at $2,000 for four-year college/university and three (3) at $1,500 for community college/technical school. Since its inception in 2015 a total of eight (8) scholarships have been awarded. Our first Haunted Housing Run was so successful, we have expanded the number of scholarships to six (6) in 2017. The Haunted Housing Run/Walk proceeds allow us to continue to support our students as they pursue higher education.
We believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Education provides opportunity, access and choices. All previous eight (8) recipients were the first in their family to attend college. The personal commitment and determination of each of the recipients to go to college is inspiring. It is our vision to provide a resource that will allow our youth the chance to maximize their potential and life contribution.
