About This Activity

The 5th annual Run 2 Read is a 5 & 10K Trail Run and 5K Trail Walk which meanders through the partially shaded vistas of beautiful Stony Creek Metropark. The course is certified and the race is timed by Gault Race Management. When you early register you're guarenteed a tech shirt in a size of your choosing.   Race medals will be awarded.

Run2Read is a fundraising event benefiting non-profit Macomb Literacy Partners (MLP).  MLP is a volunteer based organization that trains volunteer tutors to teach adult learners how to read and write or learn the English language.  Tutors and adult learners meet 2 hours per week at their local libraries, throughout Macomb County. Since 1984 MLP has served over 5300 Macomb County adult learners.  Help us run adult illiteracy out of Macomb County--Register for Run 2 Read.

Event and Course Details

Run 2 Read is a certified course  and Gault Race Management is timing the 5K and 10K running events.  Run 2 Read takes place at Stony Creek Metropark. Please enter off 26 Mile Rd. and be prepared to pay $5 for a daily vehicle pass or $25 for a yearly pass. We will be utilizing the Sheldon Trails (also known as hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country ski trails). Registration is at West Branch Picnic Area Parking Lot C, which is located near the trail head.  Restrooms are close to the registration area.  Maps of Stony Creek, the registration area, and the trail system for the races are online at

The 5K walk and run follow a route with gentle inclines and declines, covering gravel and dirt paths. The 10K route is more difficult and incorporates more changes in elevation and terrain. Whichever route you take, the scenery will lead you to believe you’re on vacation!

The staff at Stony Creek Metropark regularly grooms the trails. However, this is an off-road event, so you want to come prepared with proper footwear that is already broken in. Children in strollers are welcome, though you want to prepare for terrain. Please make sure you bring a stroller equipped for off-road conditions. Also, consider the weather. We’re going rain or shine!

What to Bring

We will provide water for event participants at aid stations along the routes. We will also have bananas at the end of the route. Please bring a personal supply of water or food if you have specific requirements. Also, consider bringing camping chairs, since seating is limited. Insect repellant and sunscreen may be useful, depending on conditions. You may also want to take advantage of other park amenities, so please plan accordingly.

We look forward to seeing you on May 30. 2015!
