About This Activity

Run, Walk & Wag 2 Read is frolicking, festive, family event that includes the dog(s) too!  It's a 5K Walk and Run that's on partially shaded trails.  The race begins at 12 noon and is followed by a Family Yappy Hour that will include food and drinks(non-alcoholic) for all.  We will have areas for you and your dog to take photos, pet vendors, trainers and lots of other fun activities!

 Dear Run, Walk & Wag 2 Read 2016 Participant,

 Macomb Literacy Partners is pleased you’ve decided to join our event!

 Rules: 

  •  Your dog(s) must be on a leash and have an ID tag on the during the entire event
  • Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • You must pick up after your dog(s). Bring your own bags.
  • Your dog(s) must be current on their vaccinations including Bordetella (Kennel Cough), in good health and not have any contagious diseases on Sept. 24, 2016.
  • No Exceptions - to participate you must sign a waiver which covers you, your child(ren), and your dog(s).  
  • You must adhere to the decisions of the event organizer/race director.  If your, your child’s(ren’s) or your dog(s) behavior is deemed unsafe, by the event organizer/race director, you will be asked to leave.  Refunds will not be given.
  • Don’t bring dog toys, balls etc.

The event will begin promptly at 12.00 Noon. Please arrive with plenty of time so that you are prepared to begin at 12 noon.  Doing so will help avoid any late start issues. Run, Walk & Wag 2 Read officially ends at 2:30 PM.

Course Details

This is a 5K running and walking event and will be timed by Fast Dog Race Timing.

Run, Walk & Wag 2 Read is at River Bends Park in Shelby Twp.  Entrance is South off 22 Mile Rd between Ryan and Shelby Roads.  We will be utilizing the River Bends Mountain Bike Trails.  Day of Event Registration and Bag Pick-Up will be at the pavilion off the 22 Mile Road entrance.  Restrooms are close to the registration area.  Maps of the park and trail will be available at http://dogwalk.r2read.com/

The 5K walk and run follow a route that is mostly level with gentle inclines and declines, covering gravel, dirt and paved paths.  This is an off-road event, so you want to come prepared with proper footwear that is already broken in. Children in strollers are welcome, though you want to prepare for terrain. Please make sure you bring a stroller equipped for off-road conditions. Also, consider the weather. We’re going rain or shine!

 

What to Bring

We will provide water for event participants at aid stations along the route and at the finish. Please bring a personal supply of water or food if you have specific requirements. Also, consider bringing camping chairs, since seating is limited. Please bring bags to pick up after your dog(s). Picking up after your dog is your responsibility.  Insect repellant for you and your dog and sunscreen may be useful, depending on conditions. We look forward to seeing you on September 24th!
