About This Activity

Heartworm Awareness 5K Run, Walk & Wiggle hosted by the Partners for Pets takes place on Sunday, April 27th at Troy Tri-Township Park.

Partners For Pets Rescue & Rehab Animal Shelter is a no-kill, licensed non-profit animal shelter in Troy, IL.  Last year the shelter celebrated 10 years of saving animals from animal control facilities when they had used up their time, needed medical care and/or were too fragile for shelter life.  Medical care and monthly preventative care is provided including all shots, spay/neuter, grooming, heartworm medication/treatment, and other needs.

The 5K race will host three categories of participants: walkers start at 1:30pm, runners and runners with dogs at 2:00pm.  This allows everyone the opportunity to compete with their category of choice and finish at approximately the same time.  An award ceremony will take place once the last participant has crossed the finish line.   Awards will be provided to the top three runners as well as top male and top female in age groups of 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over.

Following the award ceremony, Dr. David Hall, Commander in Chief of Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital, will provide a brief educational presentation about the dangers of heartworm, signs/symptoms, preventative measures, and treatment options.

Following Dr. Hall’s presentation, a dog agility demonstration will be presented by John Dahman. Hot dogs, chips, and beverages will be available for a donation. The day will wrap up with an amazing private concert by Denver Wade Trent.

Timing provided by Final Lap Race Management.
