Altamont Half Marathon
Greenville, SC - April 3rd 2021
The race series is proud to establish one of the most difficult and scenic road challenges in the southeast. This year we bring to you the 5th Annual Altamont Challenge. This course that is nestled in the foothills and based in Traveleres Rest, South Carolina. The heart of the Foothills was originally home to several Indian tribes, including the Catawba, the Creek, and the Cherokee. Travelers Rest gained notoriety as a stopover for weary travelers and livestock drovers. Travelers Rest boasts a colorful history dating back to America's early years.
You will have the opportunity to summit the top of Greenville County near Paris Mountain to look over the entire Upstate! The race starts at Hampton Park Baptist Church on State Park Road and quickly runs down to Altamont Road and ascends and descends this beautiful road before reaching the turnaround point and getting the lovely opportunity to run it again! This race will be scenic, fun, and rewarding to all finishers! Come and see if you can overcome the ultimate Altamont challenge!

Please arrive 90 minutes prior to your race start to ensure you can locate parking, bathrooms, packet pickup and set up your personal aid station if needed. You can pick up your race bib and any apparel items purchased race morning near our timing tent located near our start/finish line. Apparel will be for sale on race day.
Bib # Lookup & Timing Chip
Please locate the Bib # Sheet that will be organized by distance & alphabetical order. Find your name that corresponds with your assigned Bib # and give that number to our volunteers at packet pickup and please verify with the label on the BIB that your name and age is correct and pick up the corresponding chip tag with your bib number. Please make sure the timing chip is labeled with the same number as your race bib.
Please make sure the timing chip is secured to your running bib that is located on the front of your body. The Timing Chip MUST NOT be covered up by anything or it will not be read by the timing system. Please make sure that your bib is on the front and is visible when you cross the finish line. Please make sure to return your timing chip and BibBoard in the correct storage bin located at the finish line prior to getting your finish medal. Participants who lose or forget to return their timing chip will be asked to mail it in or pay $5 to have the reusable chip replaced.
All race participants will receive an Upstate Ultra Sticker and a unique wooden finisher award. Not everyone likes shirts so we have provided an option to purchase an Upstate Ultra Tri-Blend Shirt, Performance Socks, Trucker Hat, or Trail Buff. Change your mind? Top 3 Male and Female will receive a custom hand made award by our partner of Next Up Opportunity! Each finisher will receive a finisher medal that will be branded with the race logo and come with a custom race patch on the backside! 1st – 3rd Overall Male and Overall Female
Runners will park at Hampton Park Baptist Church on state park road. (Address: 875 State Park Rd, Greenville, SC 29609)
This half marathon route is an out and back on one of the most scenic and difficult races in the Upstate. The race starts from Hampton Park Baptist Church and runs down to Altamont Road before ascending one of the tallest peaks in the Upstate at nearly 2,000 feet. The course will have a series of directional arrows that will be placed at all intersections. Please follow all directional arrows to stay on course. In the event that you make a wrong turn please backtrack to your original spot of confusion.
WITH THE RECENT CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC WE WILL NOT HAVE AN AID STATION AT THIS EVENT. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD, WATER, AID. THIS WILL BE DONE TO HELP PREVENT THE EXCHANGE OF THE VIRUS TO EACH PARTICPANT AT THE AID STATION TABLE.
Drop Bags can be placed at the start/finish line area. Please label your drop bag with your name and BIB number. This ensures that your drop bag is at the finish line ready for you as soon as you finish.
In an effort to be good stewards to mother nature we will not have any of the following items at ANY of our events. This is in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint being placed by endurance events throughout the world. Please have a cup or hydration bottle if you will need to consume water/nutrition during the event. Please bring your own fork/spoon for any post race meals. Please bring your own bags for items collected at the race. Please make use of old safety pins or our new Bib Boards that will be available for the timing chip only.
