About This Activity
Be a part of the Miracle on Kansas Avenue by joining other runners and walkers for the 9th annual MKA Rescue Run on the actual parade route starting at 5:00 PM; one hour before the parade begins. Since you'll be leading the parade, all Rescue Run participants will receive glow items in their packet and are encouraged to wear numerous lights and holiday costumes. Bring more of your own lights and "light up the night!"The "Brightest Light" male and female chosen by popular vote at the awards ceremony will receive a special award.
Due to construction on Kansas Avenue, the 2014 the Rescue Run route will include some of its' original Four Mile course in addition to the most recent 5K course.Team competition returns for 2014 in both Corporate and Church Member categories. Want to participate but not able to join us on race day? Register and let us know that you won't attend and we'll get your packet to you. Send us a picture from wherever you are and you'll be entered to win our "Long Distance" award.

Enjoy the cheers and support of thousands of spectators as they line the parade route, eagerly awaiting the annual Downtown Topeka kickoff of the Christmas holiday season - the 20th Annual Miracle On Kansas Avenue Parade. Holiday lights and decorations will provide an especially festive atmosphere as you wind your way along the actual parade route, which is new for 2014.
ALL Runners will start at 5:00 PM and will do two loops of the actual parade route (3.1 miles total) from the start line located in 100 block of East 6th Avenue, to the finish line located north of the start line at 500 S Kansas Ave.Walkers will also start at 5:00 PM and may do one loop of the parade route (1.5 miles total), or two loops (3.1 miles total), finishing at the same location. Walkers are eligible to run, walk, or do a combination of both running and walking and must finish or exit the course prior to the parade start at 6:00 pm.
All preregistered participants will receive a technical T-shirt with their entry fee. Late entrants cannot be guaranteed T-shirt availability. All participants are eligible to win any of the fabulous door prizes that have been provided by generous area merchants. Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, to the first male and female Masters finishers (age 40-49), to the first male and female Grand Masters finishers (age 50-59), and to the first male and female Senior Grand Masters finishers (over 60). Age group awards will be presented to the first three male and female finishers in the following age group categories: 10 & under, 11-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & up
Team competition returns to the Rescue Run in 2014.Traveling trophies will be awarded to the 1st place team in both Corporate and Church Member categories.Teams must consist of at least five team members and the fastest combined finish times of the three fastest members of each team will determine the winner in both categories.Team members are also eligible to receive any applicable overall or age group award that they may receive as a result of their performance.
For insurance purposes and the safety of all involved, runners are not allowed to push strollers. Walkers may do so as long as they start at the rear of the pack and do not block the progress of runner's at any time during the event. ALL participants are required to wear their race number, visible on their front side at all times during the event. ALL participants are instructed to position themselves in the proper area of the pack at the start line so as to not impede the progress of faster participant's behind them. NO participant may wear headsets, earphones, or Ipod’s, skates or rollerblades, or bring animals or bikes on the race course at any time during the event. The race course will be closed to all vehicle traffic until the parade start at 6:00 PM but please be aware of, and alert for spectators who may get in the way as they attempt to travel to their preferred position along the parade route. All participants must sign and date the waiver and correctly complete the attached registration form.
Per instructions from the Topeka Police Department - All participants are instructed to perform all warm-up and warm-down activities on the sidewalks and NOT in the streets except for immediately before the start of the Rescue Run at 5:00 PM.
Free parking will be available in the area north and west of the finish line which is located in the 500 block of S Kansas Avenue.There is also free parking in the Bank of America parking garage (enter from Kansas Ave), the Townsite Plaza parking garage (enter from 5th St east of Kansas Ave), and the City parking garage at 5th and Jackson. Early arrival is recommended as many parade goers will be seeking those same parking spots.
Post-race snacks and beverages will be provided courtesy of area merchants. The Awards Ceremony will be presented in the main level of the Bank of America tower starting at approximately 6:00 PM.
Early registrant's may pick their packets up and late registrations will be accepted on Friday, November 28th from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Bank of America building.
Race day Registrations will be accepted at the packet pickup inside the Bank of America building, 534 S Kansas Avenue from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday November 29, 2014. T-shirt availability is NOT guaranteed for late registrant's.
