About This Activity
SHOOT, MOVE, COMMUNICATE… Three words that epitomize the Run and Gun Race™, a mission inspired obstacle course race requiring shooters and athletes to overcome physical obstacles as well as shooting obstacles… and in some cases both at the same time.
Set to take place in Frederick, Maryland this October, the Mid-Atlantic Run and Gun Race™ is biathlon for the badass... and a thrilling new way to experience obstacle course racing!
Race participants are issued an M4 Professional Training Rifle, a military simulation airsoft rifle built to mimic the real thing in weight, handling, and firing characteristics, while providing a safe experience for shooters of all skill levels (or no skill at all). Athletes are familiarized their weapon, taught basic safety, movement and firing techniques, and then set loose into an intense woodland environment.
As racers move through the 5 kilometer course they will be confronted with exciting firing problems, reactive targets, challenging military style obstacles, and rugged terrain. Athletes will be timed and their scores based on both speed and accuracy. Designed for both the competitive individual/team or the casual shooter, there are many ways to enjoy this race.
Created by members of the military elite, this “short” 5K course will challenge obstacle course racers, airsofters and shooters alike. Space is limited... register early to ensure you get to earn your tags and enjoy the post-race festivities!
We proudly support the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
Event details and schedule
The Mid-Atlantic Run and Gun Race™ is taking place on both Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th; we will be running rain or shine. The course will open at 0800 and we will run continuous heats through out the day. We anticipate the last heats should be finishing up in the late afternoon and we plan to close the course at 1800 both days.
Individual and Team heat times will be communicated a week or so prior to the event.
The course is located in Maryland just north of Frederick, and will be conveniently accessible from Route 15. Directions will be made available a few weeks before the event.
Arrival and Parking:
Heats will begin at approximately 8:00am in the morning, participants should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled start time to ensure they have ample time to check-in and catch a shuttle to the event site.
Participants will be required to park in designated parking areas and will be transported to-and-from the event by free shuttles.
Participants are encouraged to carpool and should expect to pay up to $10 per vehicle for parking. This money will be going to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
What to bring:
Both Racers and Observers must be sure to bring:
Signed Waiver – if not handled directly through registration
If you forget, I’m sure we’ll have something for you at check in
A-Game – this is going to be a lot of fun!
What to wear:
Feet – something you can get muddy
We don’t have any big plans for mud, but there is water on the course and who knows what Mother Nature will throw at us
Body – something to run in…
Long pants and sleeves are recommended; there will be ropes and occasionally BBs flying around
It’s a commando style course, so underwear are optional
Protective Gear – Eye protection is mandatory at all times in the event area
We will provide basic eye protection, though folks are encouraged to bring whatever makes them most comfortable
Facemasks, helmets, gloves and other tactical gear are all allowed on the course… just be careful not to overheat
What NOT to Bring: IMPORTANT
Weapons of any kind (Airsoft or other)
We will provide participant with everything they need to run this course, anyone found bringing weapons into the course area will be removed
Weapon Accessories – (rifle slings and GoPros are the exception)
In an effort to keep the experience consistent, and maintain a competitive playing field, weapon accessories will not be permitted on the course. All magazines, ammo, and sights (iron) will be provided
Only rifle slings and GoPros will be allowed onto the course.
The rifles will be equipped with a basic 2pt sling; if you have something you prefer to run with, you may swap this out
Drugs and Alcohol – we feel this goes without saying, but here we are saying it
For those ages 21 and over, we plan on enjoying a beer or two with you when you finish the race, please let us be the ones to provide that
