In keeping with tradition, we will host the 38th Annual Femmes Natales Runabout on Saturday, September 30, 2017. The beneficiary this year is Coach Darin Fontz.
Darin Fontz has been a teacher and coach at E. D. White Catholic High School for the past 19 years. On March 2nd, 2015, Darin was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Soon after he began chemotherapy followed by a 9-1/2 hour surgery to remove the tumor from his color, as well as several lesions on his liver. He continued chemotherapy after his surgery. Surrounded by his family and friends, Darin was able to ring the bell at Thibodaux Regional's Cancer Center on October 31, 2015 to signal the end of his treatment. He remained in remission for 10 months before a scan in August of 2016 revealed that the cancer had returned. Darin is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Thibodaux Regional's Cancer Center, as well as M. D. Anderson in Houston. Darin is the husband of the former Celeste Richard. They have been married for 18 years. Celeste is currently employed by the Lafourche Parish School Board. They have a 9-year-old daughter, Lauren, who attends St. Genevieve Catholic School.
Femmes Natales, a French term meaning “native women,” is a nonprofit women’s service organization. The group serves the Thibodaux community, as well as other area communities, throughout the year. Only Thibodaux-born women are eligible to join the 30-member group.
