About This Activity
In celebration of America Recycles Day, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful will Battle for a Healthy Bay. On Saturday morning November 15, 2014, there will be a recycle-themed fitness challenge, an environmental expo, recycling collections and the Recycle Regatta. This fun-filled day of recycling awareness, live music and physical activities for the entire family educates participants on recycling often and recycling right.
Battle for a Healthy Bay: Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful partners with Camp Gladiator to host a recycle-themed, 5-event fitness challenge. The twist on this challenge will be using recycled materials as obstacles and testing an individual’s strength and endurance. This event is designed to show how a healthy environment contributes to the health of our bodies. Test your physical endurance and strengthen your waste reduction practices. BATTLE WILL BE COMPLETED AS A TEAM OF 10. No restriction or requirements of gender, it is the choice of your team as to the number of male and females on a team. If you create a team that does not have 10 a week before the event, individual registrants will be placed on your team to complete the 10. May register as an indiviudal and be placed on a team.
Recycling Truck Pull - Teams will pull a standard recycling truck 100 yards there and back. Points will be earned according to team's recorded time.
Tread Tumbler - Teams must flip 5 tires, ranging from 200 - 500lbs, 25 yards to designated point. Points will be awarded by team's recorded time
Styro Stack - Team will compete in this endurance challenge with the ultimate goal of creating a 100 piece styrofoam pyramid. A container of styrofoam will be at the tarting point. 10 yards away teams will sprint back and forth to stack your styro pieces in pyramid form. Points will be awarded based off of team's recorded time.
Sustainability Speed Ball- 2 Teams will compete against one another in a game of Speedball. Speedball is a game in which the ultimate goal is to score more total points than the other team in a 5 minute round. A 50 yard field is split in half. A team will play defense on one end, offense on the other. An offensive player must use agility, speed, quickness to get by defenders and score a ball into one of 3 goals that lie on the endzone lines. Overall points will be determined by total score during your teams 5 minute offensive round.
Keep Tampa Bay beautiful Fundraising: You will also recieve the same point scale for raising money for our charity, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful i.e. Most monetary values raise will recieve highest point total and so on.
Notes: Each event will be run in 30 minute increments with a 15 minute break after event #3. You will have exacly 7 minutes to move from event to event after the 30 minutes have come to an end. The week of the event your team captain will receive an email with the schedule of each team's order of events, along with official rules to help your team prepare.
Recycle Regatta: The Recycle Regatta will challenge participants to test their buoyancy and waste reduction knowledge by constructing a watercraft from at least 70% recycled materials. High School, College and Corporate teams will launch from Lowry Park Boat Ramp and race their vessel over a 50-yard course on the Hillsborough River providing a hilarious competition for spectators to enjoy. Sustainability Showcase: A variety of vendors will participate in this expo of recycling initiatives, environmental awareness and healthy sustainability. Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful is partnering with Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa and the City of Temple Terrace to provide alternative recycling opportunities in our community. Residents can bring designated items to Lowry Park or other off-site locations. Items include: electronics, paint, Styrofoam, shoes, medicine and more.

How To Win the Battle:
- Each Competition your team will earn a point value based on your rankings (i.e. If you finish 1st in an event and there are a total of 40 teams, you will earn 40 points. If you finish 40th in an event you will earn 1 point).
- Team with the most cummulated points at the end of all 5 battle events will be declared the winner.
