About This Activity
Mighty Kicks Salt Lake North is proud to sponsor the 2nd 5K Race 4 GraceCharity Run and Kid's Carnival to benefit Gracie Hinds and her Family. Mighty Kicks and Real Salt Lake's Abdoulie Mansally are holding the run at Fremont Park in Syracuse, Utah. Come join us for the race and get a free Race 4 Grace bracelet and then stick around and check out our other sponsors' booths - All proceeds from the event will go to Gracie Hinds and her family for medical costs.
Gracie Hinds is a beautful 12 year old girl who was a perfectly health child up until the age of 9. In August of 2011 Gracie became sick with a virus, starting with a fever and rash. Over a weeks time the symptoms progressed causing Gracie to start having seizures that could not be controlled. Gracie was placed in a medically induced coma to control the seizures and spent 3 months in that coma in the ICU at Primary Childrens Hospital while her doctors tried to find the cause/cure for her conditions.
It was determined that Gracie was suffering from an autoimmune disorder, in which her immune system had attacked her brain instead of the original virus. Gracie was treated with extreme immune suppression, along with a procedure that removed all her antibodies and replaced them with donated healthy antibodies.
Gracie woke from her coma on 11-11-11 but then had to spend an additional 3 months in the NTU at Primary Childrens Hospital relearning to walk, talk, and even eat; it has been a long and harsh recovery process that has continued long after her release from the hospital in February of 2012.
Gracie's condition left her with several mental and physical disabilites. She has struggled everyday since her original hospitalization to regain her life. She has made some incredible strides, but a lot is still unknown about her future. During her time in the hospital we were not given much hope that Gracie would survive. Killing her immune system was really her only chance of surviving, but it has left her with an immune system that has never recovered. She has under gone several treatments but long term treatment is still unknown.
Currently, Gracie is on a mission to get her life back. She attends school when her health permits, she loves to draw, she loves music, she loves her friends and family. Gracie has the most positive, loving, energy and all who meet her fall in love with her. This page has been set up for her incredible supporters to follow along with her unbelieveable road to recovery.
