The Quarry Ridge Tri/Du is all around different from the other events in Sylvania and NW Ohio.
This event will take place in the evening, on a Wednesday, be a mini-sprint distance, and offer something for the entire family. Post-race there will be a barbecue with music and picnic foods, so the family can enjoy the evening.
Centennial Quarry is the starting point for this event, and the Centennial Terrace folks are waiting to host the festivities.
Triathlon — Triathlon → 400 yards swim, 11 mile bike, 3.1 mile run The triathlon consists of a 400 yard swim in Centennial Quarry, an 11 mile bike ride on the flat and fast rural roads surrounding the area, and a 5K/3.1 mile run completely on the scenic Quarry Ridge Trail.
This will be a fun, low-key, picnic style, family event. We expect to see many first-timers, people with mountain bikes, comfort bikes and road/tri bikes — veterans and rookies alike.
Duathlon — Duathlon → 1 mile run, 11 mile bike, 3.1 mile run The Duathlon will follow the same course as the Triathlon. The only difference is that the first run will be 1 mile on the scenic Quarry Ridge Trail.
The finish will bring you right into the transition area, and then the party begins.
Kids Splash & Dash — Open to Athletes Ages 7-15 A Splash and Dash is a fun and fast-growing sport that combines running and swimming. The run can take place on a trail, a road or a path. Similarly, the swim can take place in any body of water – a pool, a reservoir, or an ocean. USA Triathlon’s Splash & Dash Youth Aquathlon Series will feature a swim/run combination. As an athlete progresses and depending on water conditions, a traditional aquathlon may either feature a swim/run or a run/swim/run combination.
Splash & Dash Ages 7-10 → 100 yards swim, 1k run Ages 11-15 → 200 yards swim, 2k run All kids get a shirt.
The focus is on PARTICIPATION rather than competition. The series will expose youth participants to USA Triathlon and the exciting world of multisport! Timing will not be required at each event, although it is acceptable. All events within the series will be USA Triathlon sanctioned.
Everyone Will Get a Finisher's Medal The course is very spectator friendly, and once the race finishes athletes, plus friends, families and spectators are invited to the post-race party; with great food, beer, live music and awards ceremony for the top finishers.
