About This Activity

The Hope 2 Others Climb for a Cause 170-Mile Challenge is unlike any event you have ever done before. This summer, Hope 2 Others is sending a team to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the first Hope 2 Others Medical Center.

While we realize not everyone has the means to come with us, the Climb for a Cause 170-Mile Challenge allows interested people to "climb" with us. Running 170 miles in three weeks could be tricky, which is why we are encouraging people to work together to accomplish the goal. Whether it is 1 person or 6, the goal of 170 miles does not change.

With your registration, you will get a yellow drawstring bag, T-shirt, water bottle, African necklace, Hope 2 Others bracelet and Climb for a Cause button.

Participants are also encouraged to collect pledges for their run, which will be turned in during packet pick-up June 19-21. Our top individual, team and business/organization pledge earners will receive a special award, to be given out during a special recognition ceremony in August.

All funds raised from registration fees and pledges will be used to fund the first Hope 2 Others Medical Center in Kisongo, Tanzania. The left will provide much needed birthing, medical and nutritional care, along with a well for clean drinking water, to 20,000 people.

The cost to build one medical left is approximately $650,000. The Kisongo clinic is just the tip of the iceburg. Since August 2013, Hope 2 Others has received donations of 200 acres of land for 16 clinic sites.

If you want to get fit and help people in need, then you will not want to miss the Inaugural Climb for a Cause 170-Mile Challenge.

Event schedule and times

Unlike traditional races, the Climb for a Cause 170-Mile Challenge does not take place in a select city, state or country. It takes place in your town, on your own streets. Have a favorite running or hiking trail? Running the dog? Competing in another race? Wherever you go, wherever you live, your miles count.

This event is on the honor system, you can track your miles and share on Hope 2 Others' Facebook page at, send a shout-on on Twitter to @Hope2OthersWI, or just keep a private log. There is no punishment if you do not complete the miles. But we encourage all participants to work together to complete the goal of 170 miles from June 20-July 10.

While the event is targeted as a run/walk, biking is also allowed, but be aware that 1 mile running =2 miles biking. So if you biked 12 miles, you only count it as 6 miles on your log.
