About This Activity

The Third Annual Run for Shelter 5K is a road race welcoming all ages of participants from elementary to college age, to adults and seniors. It is run on a unique course through downtown State College, PA, home to the Penn State Nittany Lions, but features a view of the town, rather than campus. It is an opportunity to come together for a fun morning complete with coffee, hot cocoa, local treats, live band music and inspired competition to help the local homeless shelter. All proceeds from the race benefit Housing Transitions, Inc. This non-profit organization coordinates services to assist residents of Centre County who are facing a housing crisis. The staff at Centre House, the homeless shelter, and for HTI, focus on helping individuals and families achieve a more independent lifestyle by providing a continuum of effective and well-managed services. By participating in the event and even creating an additional fund raising page, runners are helping Centre House keep it's doors open and help those in need know the community cares.
