About This Activity

Run for Rochelle is a unique event aimed at raising awareness for the widespread, serious issue of domestic violence.

On December 18th, 2014, the CEO of Gulfcoast Jewish Family & Community Services based in Clearwater, Rochelle Tatrai-Ray, was tragically killed by the father of her children. Rochelle was a true humanitarian who devoted her career to helping those in need-- to children living in unstable homes, mentally handicapped adults, Holocaust survivors, victims of torture and persecution relocating to Florida to start new lives, and families struggling to make ends meet. Rochelle led a social service agency with 600 employees for 13 years as Chief Operating Officer, and was promoted to CEO of her agency in 2014.

Despite her professional success, her personal story was a history plagued by domestic violence. She had taken measures to protect herself and her family from danger, but sadly, it was not enough and she fell victim to a horrible death. Domestic violence can happen anytime, to anyone. She is survived by two daughters, ages 16 and 20 who now have no parental support-- either emotional or financial.

As we honor Rochelle’s legacy as a strong leader and respected representative in the community, we want to do what we can to increase knowledge and education about domestic violence.  The profits raised from this event will go to trust funds in place to offset expenses associated with Rochelle's two daughters' future care.

This event has been created to foster a sense of community and support for all of those affected by abuse. We hope that you will sign up and join us in the fight against domestic violence.

We strongly encourage everyone to fundraise further by raising money to support this worthy cause from friends and family! We have created a template email you can send to your contacts so they can get involved and help us raise as much money as possible for this important cause. If you want to join us in fundraising, please email with the subject line "Fundraising" so we can send you the template and give you more information on acquiring donations. See you April 12th!!
