Join us for this 2nd Annual Race (formerly called the Run for Recovery 5K) hosted by Celebrate Recovery at Temple.
The race will take place on a scenic, USATF-certified course utilizing Smithfield's greenways, with a start and finish at the Recreation & Aquatics Center.
Registration is $25 by 9/2, $30 after 9/2. T-shirt included for those registered by 9/2.
Can't make it on race day but still want to be a part of the race? Then simply sign up for the Virtual Race (by 9/2) and we will mail you a race t-shirt after the race. That way, you can still be a part of the event without actually attending on race day.
Entry fees are non-refundable.
Awards presented to the top 3 overall M/F and top 2 M/F in each age category. In addition, awards will be presented to the biggest and fastest teams, plus the best team t-shirt.
The opioid epidemic has been called the worst drug crisis in American history. Death rates now rival those of AIDS during the 1990s, and with overdoses from heroin and other opioids now killing close to 100 people a day, overdose is now the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. According to the CDC, opioids killed more than 33,000 people in 2015, more than any year on record. Nearly half of all opioid overdose deaths involve a prescription opioid.
New data released this summer shows the sobering local impact of the opioid crisis on North Carolina families. A report from the Governor’s office in May of this year warned that in 2015, there were more than 1,100 opioid-related deaths, a 73 percent increase from 2005. Experts are, unfortunately, predicting that we haven’t seen anything yet.
Celebrate Recovery @ Temple (templerepresents.com) is a program focused on turning these numbers around one changed life at a time. Our church-based ministry is all about the HOPE and FREEDOM that can be found through the power of God from any “hurt, habit or hangup.” The HOPE DEALER 5K is a run/walk that will support our vision to put a “hope dealer” on every corner of our community, letting those affected by this epidemic know that there is a safe place to find help and healing.
All proceeds will benefit Celebrate Recovery @ Temple, a 12 step program that is bringing hope and healing to hundreds of people in Johnston County and beyond.
