Running-5K - Individual Age group/open
About This Activity
The First Annual Firefighter 5k course mirrors the former Skaneateles 5K Road Race. It starts on State Street at Austin Park leading the Labor Day Parade. Participants pass cheering crowds as they run the parade route downhill on State Street, right on Genesee Street, and then right on Jordan Street. The course proceeds uphill on Jordan Street, past the Firemen's Field Days and then turns right onto Butters Farm Lane. After running up the hill runners turn right and go off-road through the Vargason Nature Trail. Runners exit the Nature Trail into the parking lot of the YMCA, turn right and go around the YMCA building. The course then goes onto the paved loop clockwise around upper Austin Park. Runners will turn onto the grass adjacent to the tennis courts, run along the fence line before running the perimeter of the athletic fields, finishing at the baseball field back at the Firemen's Field Days.
The 5k event, like the Skaneateles Fire Department, is made up of volunteers. 100% of the funds raised will support the Skaneateles VFD and by extension the immediate and surrounding communities they serve.
