Carolina Reaper Challenge

In the event the guidelines for hosting events prevents us from hosting this safely we will be turning this event into a virtual option and you will be given an option to have your medal/swag shipped to your residence or picked up at New Balance Greenville on Woodruff Road. We will update you as soon as we receive any new information and guideline restrictions that may prevent us from hosting. We will not be issuing refunds or choosing a new race date. 


Welcome to the 3rd Annual Carolina Reaper Challenge event! We are pleased to bring a new and exciting twist to three different distances including the 50k, the full marathon, and half marathon distance. This will be great for the first time finishers of these distances as well as give a new challenge to all the speed demons out there! 



  • Death Pepper 50k starting at 11:00am
  • Carolina Reaper Marathon Starting @ 12:20pm
  • Carolina Reaper Relay Starting @ 12:20pm
  • Ghost Pepper 13.1 and Ruck Challenge Starting @ 3:40pm
  • Jalapeno (2 x 2.62) Starting at 5:40pm

Carolina Reaper Race Format

  • The race loop is 2.62 miles from start to finish. 
  • Each race has a designated number of loops to complete
    • 50k (12 Loops)
    • Marathon (10 Loops)
    • Half Marathon (5 Loops)
  • The Timer will Ring a Kettle Bell starting at 11am
  • He will continue to ring the bell 12 times every 40 minutes until 5:40pm
  • At the beginning of each loop runners will  given 40 minutes to complete the loop. 
  • If a runner fails to complete the loop under 40 minutes they will be disqualified 
  • All runners must wait until the top of the 40 minute mark to start their next loop. 
  • If you complete your loop in 20 minutes you will have to wait 20 minutes before the next loop. 
  • If you complete your loop in 39 minutes you will have a 1 minute break. Ya dig? 
  • The first race will start at 11:00am with the 50k runners 
  • The personal tent area is located directly behind the start and finish lines
  • The paths are wide and this is a closed loop with two police officers manning a small section of road

Packet Pickup

You can pick up your race bib and any apparel items purchased race morning near our timing tent at the start finish line. Packet Pickup will start 60 minute prior to the start of each distance! Apparel will be for sale on race day. Race Day registration is also available but I will warn you now, you will not like the price. Best bet is to register now!


Race Swag

All race participants will receive an Upstate Ultra Sticker and a unique wooden finisher award. Not everyone likes shirts so we have provided an option to purchase an Upstate Ultra Tri-Blend Shirt, Performance Socks, Trucker Hat, or Trail Buff. Change your mind? Race Awards

Top 3 Male and Female will receive a custom hand made award by our partner of Next Up Opportunity! Each finisher will receive a finisher medal that will be branded with the race logo and come with a custom race patch on the backside! Address and Parking

The race is located at Southside High School and runners can park at the following address: 6630 Frontage Rd, Greenville, SC 29605. You will enter the main parking lot off of Frontage Road. There are 400 parking spots available so spread out!


Relay Teams

  • One runner per team may run at a given time
  • Runners may run consecutive laps
  • 2 Person teams (a single runner can complete a maximum of 6 laps)
  • 3 Person teams (a single runner can complete a maximum of 4 laps)
  • 4 Person teams (a single runner can complete no more than 3 laps)


Aid Stations

No aid station until further notice to help prevent the direct contact between people and the spread of the virus. Please make preparations for all nutritional needs (water & food)



In an effort to be good stewards to mother nature we will not have any of the following items at ANY of our events. This is in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint being placed by endurance events throughout the world. Please have a cup or hydration bottle if you will need to consume water/nutrition during the event. Please bring your own fork/spoon for any post race meals. Please bring your own bags for items collected at the race. Please make use of old safety pins or our new Bib Boards that will be available for the timing chip only.
