About This Activity

If you love multiple sports, this is the most fun you will ever have. Come test your speed, strength and stamina in this challenging and fun contest.

Event schedule and times

The Alternative Decathlon (1 day, 10 events, about 3 hours)

  1. 100 Meters:  Timed event - solo sprint on the track
  2. Vertical Jump:  Three jump attempts. Score is based on height of your jump subtracted by your standing reach height
  3. Basketball Drill: Timed event - starting on the mid-court, run to any basket, attempt a layup, then run all the way back, and repeat for a total of 10 baskets. Each missed layup adds 2 seconds to your time.
  4. Baseball Throw:  Make three throws from a standing position (no running start). Throw is measured at the point the ball comes to a complete stop. Score is based on your best throw.
  5. 400 Meters:  Timed event - run one complete lap around the track
  6. 110 Low hurdles: Timed event - solo sprint on the track with 24" tall hurdles
  7. Soccer Ball Punt:  Make three punts. Distance is measured at the point the soccer ball makes contact with the ground. Furthest punt is your score.
  8. Long Jump:  Make your longest jump in three attempts. Score is based on your best jump.
  9. Football toss:  Make three tosses. Distances is measured at the point the football makes contact with the ground. Farthest throw is your score
  10. The Mile: Timed event - run 4 laps around the track.


8:30am: Registration - Please arrive to the track entrance adjacent to the parking lot off of Colesville Road no later than 8:30am for registration.

8:45am: orientation meeting will be held reviewing all of the events, rules and scoring.

9:10am: Warm-up, stretch, practice throws, etc.  

9:30am: 100 Meter dash begins!


  • Printed and signed waiver form (see last page of this document)
  • Running shoes, athletic apparel, as appropriate
  • Family and Friends for volunteers, if possible


  • Timing equipment/stop watches, hurdles
  • Footballs, baseballs, basketballs, soccer balls, etc.
  • Cold sports drinks
  • Participant T-Shirts
  • Champion gold, silver, and bronze medals
  • Team awards
