About This Activity

The Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship Triathlon benefits the Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship which was set up in her memory.

Emily Schindler spent most of her life in the water.  Joining the SPY when she was 9 years old, she always put friendship above the competition of the sport.  Emily exemplified team spirit. Always encouraging others to remain positive, Emily brought a smile to everyone around her.

Event schedule and times

Relays consist of 2 or 3 people. Each leg needs to be completed by the person who started the leg. There can be 1 person for 1 leg and another for 2 or a total of 3 people each doing 1 leg. Each person needs to complete a separate registration form to participate.

In keeping with Emily’s enthusiasm for “the time she had” rather than her “swim times,” we encourage everyone to enjoy their experience of a recreational triathlon. The swim, run and transition times (the time between each leg of the event) will be posted. Times will not be posted for the bike “ride” because no one is permitted to exceed the speed limit of 15 mph and participants will not receive an advantage or disadvantage by the bike “ride.” There will be designated pathways roped off to direct participants to the next leg of the triathlon. Please stay in the path for your safety and obey all B&A Trail regulations including the 15 mph speed limit — failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Sprint Triathlon = Swim- 800 Yards; Bike - 9 ½ miles; Run - 3miles

Flamingo Feat = Swim - 1600 Yards; Bike - 18 miles; Run - 6 miles

(Bike and Run distances are approximations)

The Flamingo Feat:

The Flamingo Feat is an opportunity for previous participants in the Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship triathlon to develop their triathlon skills and compete in a triathlon with distances approximately double the ESMS triathlon.  (1 mile swim, 18 mile bike, 6 mile run)

To be eligible to compete in the Flamingo Feat, individuals must have a swim time of 30 minutes or less for the one mile swim. The Flamingo Feat is limited to individual participation (no teams).
