Description: The 8th Annual Gold Star Run for Honor in Saugus, MA held in memory of Scott Procopio who was killed in action 14 years ago in Ramadi Iraq.
Packet Pickup/Race Day Reg: 6:30-8AM at Saugus Center in front of the Town Hall. Packet pickup is on race day only, unless otherwise noted.
Course: The course is a mix of flat and rollers with one good size climb. All distances start at the same time and all fuel stops will have water and electrolytes. Strollers and dogs are welcome.
Kids Fun Run Course: This 1/4 mile Kids Fun Run is targeted for those 8 and under starting at 7:45am. Pre-registered kids will be guaranteed a t-shirt. The run will start right at the closed off rotary and will finish under the High5EM finish archway on Taylor St. If your child is 8 & under and wishes to participate in the 5K or 10K and the Kids Fun Run please sign he/she in the individual category so he/she will receive an official race time.
1 Mile Walk: New in 2020, this walk has been added to those looking to participate in the event and receive all the race accolades without having to run.
Team Category: Own a business? Part of a running club? This is an easy and fun way to recruit your friends. Teams must consist of at least 4+ people. Prizes will be awarded for the largest & fastest team.
Swag: Participants will receive custom designed race bibs and finisher medals. Shirts will be guaranteed to those pre-registered by 5/18.
Awards: Overall top 3 M/F for the 5K and 10K – Cash Prizes 1st, 2nd and 3rd M/F in each age group: Under 14, 15-19 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ Largest Team Fastest Team (Cumulative time for the top 5 finishers) No double dipping

Festivities: There will be a variety of community sponsors and vendors setup in front of the Saugus Town Hall. Essex Landing will be on site providing hot dogs for all participants and other food/drink will be available. We encourage you to stick around for the Memorial Day festivities & Annual Parade that commences between 9:30-10AM.
More about Scott: Scott was on his second deployment as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, having previously served in Fallujah in 2005. He was killed in action as a result of a roadside bomb on the morning of April 2, 2006 in Ramadi, Iraq.
Beneficiary: 100% of the event proceeds will be allocated to CPL Scott J. Procopio Memorial Scholarship program to provide high school seniors with academic scholarships.
