About This Activity

Get back to "Safe Racing" at the 8th Annual Gold Star Run for Honor in Saugus, MA held in memory of Scott Procopio who was killed in action 14 years ago in Ramadi Iraq. Options to include a 5K, 10K, 1 mile Walk and a Kids Fun Run. 100% of proceeds to be allocated to the Scott Procopio Scholarship Fund. 
Location: Saugus Town Hall, Saugus MA 

Packet Pickup/Race Day Reg: 6:30-8AM at Saugus Center in front of the Town Hall. Packet pickup is on race day only, unless otherwise noted.

Course: The course is a mix of flat and rollers with one good size climb. All distances start at the same time and all fuel stops will have water and electrolytes. Strollers and dogs are welcome.

Kids Fun Run Course: This 1/4 mile Kids Fun Run is targeted for those 8 and under starting at 7:45am. Pre-registered kids will be guaranteed a t-shirt. The run will start right at the closed off rotary and will finish under the High5EM finish archway on Taylor St. If your child is 8 & under and wishes to participate in the 5K or 10K and the Kids Fun Run please sign he/she in the individual category so he/she will receive an official race time.

1 Mile Walk: New in 2021, this walk has been added to those looking to participate in the event and receive all the race accolades without having to run.

Virtual Option: We learned a lot from the 2020 pandemic, one of which being the limitless virtual world, where scheduling conflicts and traveling are no longer a problem. We now have a virtual option for the Gold Star Run. You'll have all weekend to complete your preferred distance while receiving all the glory including all the swag and an even an opportunity to submit your race results. Unfortunately you won't be eligible for awards but you will have the opportunity to download a finishers certificate upon completion. 

Team Category: Own a business? Part of a running club? This is an easy and fun way to recruit your friends. Teams must consist of at least 2+ people. Prizes will be awarded for the largest & fastest team. 

Swag: Participants will receive custom designed race bibs and finisher medals. Shirts will be guaranteed to those pre-registered by 5/15.

Festivities: There will be a variety of community sponsors and vendors setup in front of the Saugus Town Hall. Essex Landing will be on site providing hot dogs for all participants and other food/drink will be available. We encourage you to stick around for the Memorial Day festivities & Annual Memorial Day Parade that commences between 9:30-10AM.

More about Scott: Scott was on his second deployment as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, having previously served in Fallujah in 2005. He was killed in action as a result of a roadside bomb on the morning of April 2, 2006 in Ramadi, Iraq.

Beneficiary: 100% of the event proceeds will be allocated to CPL Scott J. Procopio Memorial Scholarship program to provide high school seniors with academic scholarships.

Weather: This event will take place rain or shine!  
Race Refunds & Event Cancellation: We understand that life happens and things come up. That being said, we now offer a standard entry and the option to make it fully refundable. The standard entry is the base amount that is required to register for the race. The refundable option is an additional charge that provides the opportunity for a full refund at any time, up to the day before the race. Once a standard entry is purchased, it cannot be upgraded to refundable at a later date.
In the case of an event cancellation due to public safety, inclement weather or some other unforeseen power at be, we will provide several options including a deferral, credit or transfer.
