2014 The 35th Annual Mud Creek Crawl

About This Activity
Has it really been 35 years? Back in 1980, John Lennon was shot, Ronald Reagan was Time Magazine’s Man of the Year, CNN began broadcasting, the computer modem and the Rubik’s Cube were invented, Darth Vader uttered the words “No, I am your father” (NOT “Luke, I am your father”) and the MUD CREEK CRAWL was established.
Originally presented by the Tri-City Nordic Ski Club, led by Don Kane, continued under the direction of John McPeak and presented by Midland County Parks and Recreation Department, the MUD CREEK CRAWL has become a nationally recognized off-road race (RUNNER'S WORLD's choice as one of the nation's Top 13 Out-Of-The-Way Races) and this year you can be a part of it!
Tri To Finish is proud to add this storied event that is part of the Element Race Series to our season for 2014. Traditionalists don’t fret; we’re keeping the same course, the same rules, and the same muddy, gritty, adventurous feel you’ve come to love. For those new to this event, top finishers are determined through the use of a handicap system of scoring: each entrant will have his/her actual finish time adjusted by a body type/composition factor and an age/gender factor. This handicapping allows each runner an essentially equal chance to win in his/her chosen race.
As always, you can expect our signature Tri To Finish race experience, even lost in the woods! Expect personalized finishes, music, food, and of course our army of Adirondack chairs waiting for you at the end. Each entrant will also receive a special finisher award with the MUD CREEK CRAWL name/logo. As in past years, we will be capping this race at 250 registrants so act fast to avoid missing out on one of Michigan’s premier trail races!
The MUD CREEK CRAWL is run over a beautifully wooded and hilly course on trails that were designed for cross-country skiing. Races are a 5 km run, a 10 km run, and a 5 km walk through the rugged (for mid-Michigan) terrain at the confluence of Mud Creek and the Salt River in the Pine Haven Recreation Area near Sanford, Michigan. The trail surface is natural turf, sand, or (hopefully) mud, depending upon the pre-race weather. There will be one water/aid station on each USATF sanctioned course.
