The Nanty Narking Nearly 9K is a beautiful trail run and 2 Mile Fun Stroll that will highlight sites of historic interest in Sandy Spring. Nanty Narking (a Victorian expression meaning “Great Fun“) is a rustic and rootsy trail run back in time where runners will go right past historic Montgomery County, MD sites like the 19th century Friends Meeting House, Woodlawn Manor, the original Sandy Spring, and spots on the Underground Railroad Experience Trail. Runners of all ages and abilities can experience the scenic, off-the-beaten path beauty of Sandy Spring, Maryland.
The 9K will start at 8:00 A.M. The course consists primarily of wooded paths, single-track fields and gravel access roads. It is a loop course which begins at the historic Ashton Meeting House on the grounds of the Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS), meanders through wooded trails of the Underground Railroad Experience Trail, circles the grounds of Woodlawn Manor, and passes the Sandy Spring, the 19th century home Harewood, and the historic Friends Meeting House and cemetery before returning to SSFS. This is a trail run so tread lightly and expect unpredictable footing!
The race is presented by Sandy Spring Museum and is timed by Crazy Dog Events.
