About This Activity

ALS Golden West Chapter is sponsoring the first annual 5K run in Golden Gate Park in memory of Jim Tracy, the inspirational track coach at San Francisco University High School (UHS), who lost his courageous battle with ALS last Spring. Jim touched countless runner's lives during his remarkable coaching career, spanning two decades and 40 seasons at UHS. His dedication to the student’s success helped the UHS team win 10 state cross country titles in 19 seasons and four straight California Division V titles from 2009-2012. He helped instill a life-long love of running to countless high school students. Our event hopes to bring together people that were inspired by his story, alumni runners at UHS who were touched by his leadership, people who are interested in supporting the ALS Association, and Bay Area locals who have a passion for running.

All of the proceeds of the race will be donated to the ALS Association. The ALS Association is dedicated to leading the fight to cure and treat ALS through global, cutting-edge research, and to empower people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.
