About This Activity

On November 8th, 2013, in a matter of hours, Typhoon Haiyan – one of the strongest storms ever recorded – completely devastated parts of eastern Visayas in the central Philippines.

Super Typhoon Yolanda  has made history as one of the most catastrophic storms in world history.  If you just turn on your television or look at the paper, you can see the enormity of the devastation.

Mass burials have taken place in pits bigger than olympic size swimming pools with scores of unidentified bodies being interred together, most without any ritual.  The devastation has been so incredibly enormous.

Scores of children have lost their families in the storm.  There are now hundreds of orphaned children in grave need of homes, shelter, social services, and not to mention, psychological counseling.

We are all aware of the seriousness   of   the   damage   and   trauma   wrought   by   Typhoon   Yolanda to our Filipino brothers and sisters.

Much has been donated by various charities and foreign governments to alleviate the hunger and medical needs of the affected, butthere is still much more that can be done.

The people are very much lacking help in terms of psychosocial interventions especially for the children survivors.  The Orphans.

Scores of children who have lost their families in the storm were moved to protective shelters in the Manila area.

They are far from home, without their families, often not speaking the same dialect or language as those that care for them. Their emotional and psychological pain is deeply ingrained.

Asia America Initiative, a non-profit humanitarian organization certified by the Department of Social Welfare [DSWD] has much experience in responding to natural disasters throughout the Philippines.

They are working hard to conduct a psychosocial intervention program for children and families affected byTyphoon Yolanda. This project is dubbed PROJECT PAHIYUM [“Smile” in Visayan language].

I am working with Asia America Initiative along with their partner, International Relief Teams, to raise funds for the orphaned children of Typhoon Yolanda and Project Pahiyum and we need your help!

We can all see the gravity of the people's suffering, and I believe that, NOW more than ever, all of us are called on to do whatever we can to help alleviate their suffering.

I call on you to reach inside your heart and make a contribution to help these children, OUR children. Make a stand for humanity.  Together we can change their lives. God bless you!
