9th Annual Ben Layton Memorial 5K Run/Walk
Sat, Jun 14, 2014
About This Activity
Thank you, thank you, thank you, 2013 was a banner year for this annual event, with a record 350+ participants coming out to support this cause. Our goal for 2014 is to surpass the 400 mark this year by encouraging more youth groups and teams to sign-up for a very modest entry fee. There will be new youth age categories for awards. Our event website will contain the details.
LLS is making a difference by funding research that is curing cancers of the blood. Each year in our community, adults and children, are diagnosed with this potentially fatal illness. Your participation today is helping fund this research.
This event is held annually in memory of young Ben Layton who was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia shortly after he turned two. Ben bravely battled the disease for two years. Aware of the gravity of his illness, Ben daydreamed about the new life he would have and was certain that he would receive Red Angel Wings in Heaven. Ben received his wings on May 29, 2002. New this year, our change in date coincides with the weekend events that are being scheduled commemorating the 10 year anniversary of Ben's Red Swings.
All proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, It is our hope that the Ben Layton Memorial 5K will continue to celebrate Ben's life and those touched by leukemia and other blood cancers.
