About This Activity

Active Water is an organization whose one of several missions is to build wells and put in bio-sand filters to provide clean water to people in Africa. Many times a person walks, on average, 4-6 miles to get water that isn’t even clean. The wells that Active Water put in are a community hand pump well. These can range in price anywhere from $4,500 to $9,000 depending on the depth needed to be drilled, the toughness of the soil, type of equipment needed, season of the year the drilling will take place, and how many people are needed to dig the well. Although, some well projects can cost as little as $500 because it just needs repaired. The bio-sand filters are much cheaper and cost only $85 to install. The families are trained on how to use the filter properly. These filters can serve 13 people per day with 98% purification and last 12- 15 years before having to be replaced again! This is the cause I am raising money for. If you would like to learn about some of Active Water’s other missions you can visit
