MIKRO MARATHON - [mee-kro mar-uh-thon]
A celebration where you run 13.1 miles & FEAST!

Go Greek this fall as the YMCA and the Roanoke Greek Festival present the 2nd Annual MIKRO HALF MARATHON! This 13.1 mile race will begin and end at The Greek Festival located at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The MIKRO Marathon is an out and back course with rolling hills and great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. To reward you for your Herculean endeavor, join us post-race for a feast fit for the gods.

Event details and schedule

The half marathon course (13.1 miles) is an out and back course. The MIKRO half-marathon will begin and end at The Greek Festival located at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The MIKRO Marathon will be an out and out race that has rolling hills and great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The MIKRO Marathon will be a combination of a residential route similar to last year in addition to the Lick Run Greenway to Washington Park and back. The route will take place in Roanoke City.

Packet pick-up is at The Greek Festival on Friday, September 16th from 4:00pm-8:00pm. There will be a YMCA table set up out front for those who want to pick up their packet and leave. The Greek Festival is located at 30 Huntington Blvd NE, Roanoke, VA 24012. Please allow at least 15 minutes to pick up your packet.

There will be very limited packet pick-up available on race day, so we strongly encourage going to The Greek Festival on September 16th. Packet pick-up the day of race will take place at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church between 6:30am-7:00am. Look for the YMCA table.

Friday, September 16

4:00pm-8:00pm - Packet Pick Up at the Greek Festival.
11:00am-10:00pm- Greek Festival

Saturday, September 17

6:30am-7:00am - Race Day packet pick-up

8:00am - MIKRO Marathon starts

10:00am - MIKRO Marathon overall winner awards will be announced (on stage at Greek Festival)

10:15am - MIKRO age category award winners will be announced (on stage at Grek Festival)

11:00am - Go Greek!  Join us at the Roanoke Greek Festival for food, games and fun!

12:00pm – MIKRO Marathon course closes

We recommend getting to the Greek Festival by 7:30am on race day (if you have already picked up your packet the day before).   This will give you time to park, stretch and warm up.  The MIKRO marathon will start promptly at 8:00am.

The MIKRO Marathon will take place rain or shine.  In the event of extreme or unsafe conditions on race day, the MIKRO Marathon may be altered or canceled to ensure the safety of all participants and the community as a whole. Changes to the status of the race will be communicated to all participants as promptly as possible.

The time limit for completing the MIKRO marathon is four hours. Majority of roads will be open to vehicular traffic during the race. Police Officers and volunteers will be placed strategically along the route to direct traffic and support all racers. Emergency services will be on location at the church and on stand-by. The course will officially close at 12:00pm.

Any half marathoners finishing after four hours will not be scored as official finishers.


We will present our MIKRO Half Marathon award winners on the left stage at the Greek Festival area. Top three overall winners for both male and female will be presented awards at 10:00am. Runners must be present to receive their prize. We are unable to mail awards after the race.

 Age Group Awards: Awards will be given to the three top male and female finishers in the following age groups: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.

The top three overall winners in the male and female category will receive an AUTHENTIC, hand-crafted Greek statue with a personalized plaque as their prize. Age category winners will receive a memorable take home medal or plaque.
