About This Activity
Come Out & Gallop for a Great Cause
Gallop 4 the Greenways is an annual fundraising event to support our growing network of pedestrian and bicycle trails. The annual Gallop 4 the Greenways will be held on Wiley Drive near River's Edge Sports Complex. This year a 5k and 5 mile race will take place on the beautiful Roanoke River Greenway. After the race, be sure to stick around for the post-race festivities including music, food and a fine selection of beverages proper for adults and children. Mark your calendars today and join us in supporting one of the most important quality of life assets in the Roanoke area.
Start and Finish Locations: The race will start on Wiley Drive (just like in year's past) and finish back at River's Edge Sports Complex. The finish line will be on the opposite side of the foot bridge. This will allow runners to finish in the midst of the festival grounds with crowds cheering as the music plays.
Course Description(s): 1. The starting line for the 5k, 5 Miler, Group Walk and Kids Fun run are all just across the foot bridge on Wiley Drive. Wiley Drive will be closed. 2. From the starting line run up Wiley Drive toward Franklin Road 3. Just before Franklin, veer right onto the one-way section of Wiley. All of Wiley will be closed to traffic, but runners will now be moving toward the flow of traffic on the park road 4. Once turned around, runners will retrace their steps back on to the course with the 5k runners when they cross the bridge back into Wasena Park. 7. When you come to Smith Park, veer left on the Greenway and take the back greenway path option (playground will be on your right. 8.
