This year's event will also include an alternative option to participate virtually via the Go-the-Distance October Challenge, a virtual challenge to run or walk either 31, 62, or 131 miles between October 1 and October 31, 2021.

1 Mile

The 1-mile is a short loop through neighborhoods adjacent to the hospital. Registration does not include a shirt, but shirts can be purchased in addition to the event fee during registration.

Go-the-Distance October Challenge

The Go-the-Distance October Challenge is offered following the 2020 success of our 130-Mile Challenge, which celebrated the 130th Anniversary of The Friends of the Reading Hospital, who have now been providing funding and hands-on assistance for many health and wellness programs and initiatives both for patients of the Reading Hospital and in the Berks County community at large for 131 years.

We have added new distances to make the challenge more accessible to everyone, as wellness is a journey and we are all in different places, but moving forward is the goal! For each event, the goal mileage may be completed by participants at any time, place, and speed of their choosing, over the course of the entire month of October 2021.

The challenge distance options are: 31 miles (an average of 1 mile per day), 62 miles (an average of 2 miles per day), or 131 miles (an average of 4.25 miles per day). Miles are logged on RunSignup.com either daily or at completion of the month. Following registration, detailed instructions for reporting miles will be provided.

All Go-the-Distance participants will receive a short-sleeve tech shirt (must register by October 6th to be guaranteed your size), and all finishers who complete the event will receive a custom medal; both will be mailed to participants following the end of the Challenge.

Anyone that wants to sign up for an in-person event and a Challenge event should first register for the in-person event, and then once registered, see their confirmation email which will contain directions to obtain a personalized entry code allowing an add-on registration for any challenge event at a discounted rate of $15; this add-on entry would include the finisher’s medal, but not a shirt.  * Discount only applies to 5K and 1/2 Marathon registrants.
