The Pueblo Chieftain and the Southern Colorado Runners welcome you to the 42nd Annual Pueblo Chieftain Spring Runoff. Join us for the 2020 edition of Pueblo’s oldest and largest running event. Since 1978, Southern Colorado’s leading newspaper, the Pueblo Chieftain, has supported and sponsored this early springtime road and river trail race. All paid entrants will receive a beautiful, Spring Runoff shirt.
We have something for everyone. This year we are offering 3 adult events, 10 mile and 10K runs starting at 8:45 AM and a 5K run/walk, starting at 9:00AM. *Note: there will NOT be a separate walk in 2020. At 10:45 AM we have two free youth events, a 50 yard dash for toddlers and a 1.1 mile youth run for Kindergarten up to the 8th grade, the Funner to be a Runner (no-shirt included in the free youth events).
*NOTE: In 2020 we will not be having a walk as a separate event. Walkers are welcome to enter the 5K run/walk. There are several reasons why we decided to cancel the walk but the primary reason is we do not have the volunteers necessary to police the walking event. We've had problems with walkers who run, not walk, and win awards. We felt it best to combine the walk with the 5K where walkers may run and/or walk as they see fit.
Don’t miss out; plan now to join us on SATURDAY, March 7, 2020, for Pueblo’s Premier running event.
Youth runners, 18 and under pay $20 for the 10K and 5K, and $25 for the 10 mile
SCR members receive a $5 discount at registration.
Toddler 50 yard dash and Funner to be a Runner are free but do not receive a shirt.

Pueblo is located in the "banana belt" of Colorado. 76% of the days in Pueblo are Sunny, more sunny days than San Diego or Miami. When other areas of Colorado experience snow, Pueblo many times remains dry. That being said, weather in March is unpredictable. We hope for sunny and 60 degrees but it could be snowing. In the event of snow, Parks and Rec will plow the river trail but we can’t guarantee solid footing throughout. Check the weather forecast, come prepared for snow and cold, then be pleasantly surprised by the great weather we have in Pueblo in March. We will run the races regardless of the weather but we reserve the right to shorten or alter the courses if necessary. We do our best to provide a quality and safe run. Remember, the race will be held, regardless of weather and there are no refunds. Dogs are not allowed inside Dutch Clark Stadium and therefore are not allowed in any Spring Runoff events. No smoking allowed anywhere on school property. Strollers or baby joggers or similar devices (with bicycle type wheels) are allowed but should be started at the back of the runners and walkers. Headphones are discouraged but not banned.
