About This Activity

In the 1980s there were more than 80,000 honeybee colonies in Pennsylvania. Today, 2,000 beekeepers now manage around 40,000 honeybee colonies in the state. Bee and other pollinator populations are declining at an alarming rate, and researchers are working hard to understand why-it’s common to see a list of theories both on the news and online. If this decline continues, it will have a devastating effect on crops, livelihoods and our environment.

Body Go Fitness has been helping people in our neighborhood reach their health and fitness goals for 15 months, and we want to give back and make this community even stronger! With that in mind, we are hosting our first annual 5K with proceeds going to one of our favorite organizations: The Montgomery County Beekeeper’s Association. MCBA’s mission is honeybee education and conservation, and they work year-round not just as a resource to local beekeepers, but towards addressing the threats that face honeybees today.

As part of what we hope will be a growing annual event, Body Go Fitness will be donating proceeds from this all-ages/all-levels family event to MCBA. In addition to the race, we will be offering music, raffles from our local business neighbors, and serving an optional lunch.

Thank you for joining us on race day, building community, and raising awareness!
