About This Activity
The Waynflete West End 5K and Fun Run is for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. The event is organized by parent volunteers of Waynflete School and is a fundraiser for the West End Mentoring Project and Project Storyboost, in which Waynflete student mentors pair with students at nearby Reiche Elementary School.
The certified 5K course begins and ends at Waynflete School on Spring Street in Portland, Maine and winds through the residential streets of the city's historic West End. The route consists of two loops through the neighborhood and around the West End Cemetery via the Western Promenade, which provides the only two significant hills on the course. Otherwise, the route is largely flat, along wide, tree-lined avenues.
Runners are encouraged to form teams of two or more. The team score will be calculated by adding the times of the first finishers in either the 2- or 3-person team categories.
Walkers are encouraged and will be timed provided that they complete the course within 1 hour. Walkers may also complete a single-loop course, about 3K.
The 1K Fun Run for kids ages 10 and under will follow the 5K at 9:00 a.m.
Awards will be given to individual overall, individual age-group, and team winners in the 5K.
