Coral Springs 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb (JPT DECA)
Sat, Sep 20, 2014
Pompano Beach, FL
About This Activity
The 9-11 Memorial Stair Climbs are not timed race events, but a way for firefighters and members of the community to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live. Each participant pays tribute to a FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Your individual tribute not only remembers the sacrifice of an FDNY brother, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others. Through firefighter and community participation we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters is honored and that the world knows that we will never forget. The proceeds of these events help the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation create and maintain programs that support fire service survivors. Your support of the 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb events provides assistance to the surviving families and co-workers of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
Proudly hosting the event is JP Taravella High School DECA, a marketing and finance club of over 300 members, who designed this endeavor as their 2014 Public Relations Project in partnership with the Coral Springs Fire Department. Members will gather pledges for the NFFF and the Twins Towers Orphan Fund and recognize firefighters and VIP's in the JPT auditorium before the climb. Local firefighters, residents, and over 150 DECA members will participate in the actual climb. Adults will receive an event t-shirt and completers of the climb will receive a Challenge Coin designed and paid through student fundraising. Sponsors are welcome to help defray t-shirt costs and may contact DECA Advisor/teacher Jamie Simmons at 954-899-5543 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Logo's will be placed on tees and event banner. DECA Co-Chairpersons are Ambalika Kangal-Tirado and Rachael Christopher and Taravella Principal is Shawn Cerra. John Robbins is CSFD liaison.
The JPT DECA Stair Climb is open to those over 18 years old, JPT DECA members, and teens accompanied by an adult. A parental notarized liability form is needed for minors (contact email@example.com). After the 8 am registration and 9 am opening ceremonies in the JPT auditorium, climbers will move to the 3 story 1000 building for 18 circuits to complete the climb. Completers will receive a Challenge Coin and picture with the event banner.
Only 200 t-shirts are available; those first to register will have the best chance of receiving a t-shirt at the size requested. 95 climbers have registered as of 9-8-14.
