About This Activity
Running on Hopi is unlike no place in the world. As a people we have been living here for hundreds of years and running the trails our ancestors have run before us. We have thrived in this place because of our strong traditions and culture. Running is amongst these traditions. From Louis Tewanima (1908 Hopi Olympian), Hopi High School Boy’s 24 cross country state championships titles, to modern day runners like Caroline Sekaquaptewa & Juwan Nuvayokvaya; we as a community continue to carry our tradition of running while keeping our trails ‘the veins to the villages’, alive. Lastly, running is a form of prayer and healing as we here on Hopi know.
“The 4th of July run’s mission is to promote wellness through running as well as community togetherness.” On Saturday, July 4, 2015, the Mesa2Mesa Trail Run Crew aims to bring runners of both genders, all age groups, and physical abilities together. With this run we would like to honor our Hopi, Tewa and ALL Veterans and active military personnel. This run for many will bring about prayer, faith, dreams, goals, and overall wellness for these heroes and their families.
Whether you are a local or visiting runner in our community, we invite you to support the 4th of July 1/2 Marathon, 10k, and 2-mile run to be impactful for our Veterans and Military Personnel.
