About This Activity

Pirates Charities invites runners, walkers and fans of all ages and abilities to show your Pirates pride by participating in this annual race, presented by Highmark and Allegheny Health Network. This year, for the first time ever, the Pirates are pleased to announce the addition of a 10K route to this year’s event. Participants can choose to run a 5K, 10K or One Mile Family Fun Run.

All 5K and 10K participants will receive a commemorative tech t-shirt and a ticket voucher for ONE complimentary ticket to any Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016. All 5K and 10K participants will also receive a commemorative medal upon completion of the race.  Plus, all participants will cross the finish line at Home Plate inside PNC Park.

Families are encouraged to participate with the Chick-fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run, which also finishes on PNC Park's field!  Fun Run participants will receive a specially designed Family Fun Run t-shirt, a commemorative medal and a ticket voucher for ONE complimentary ticket to any Pirates home game at PNC from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016.

5K Team Challenge - $120

Chick-fil-A® One Mile Family Fun Run - $10 per child ages 14 and younger; $20 per person ages 15 and older

 

Registration Options: 

5K Run

  • All 5K runners will be electronically timed.
  • Chips will be pre-assigned and distributed at packet pick-up (or mailed to you, based upon your selection).
  • Staggered start times will be assigned.
  • Runners will receive a tech T-Shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016.
  • All 5K runners will receive a specially-designed commemorative medal upon completion of the race!

5K Walk

  • Participants are welcome to walk the 5K route.
  • Timing will not be available for walkers.
  • Walkers also receive a tech T-Shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016.
  • All 5K walkers will receive a specially-designed commemorative medal upon completion of the race!

5K Team Challenge

  • Team of four people each running the 5K.
  • The four 5K times are averaged together for a team time.
  • Men/Women/Coed teams.
  • Team challenge participants receive a tech T-Shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016.
  • All 5K team participants will receive a specially-designed commemorative medal upon completion of the race!

10K Run

  • All 10K runners will be electronically timed.

Chick-fil-A® One Mile Family Fun Run*

  • Families of all sizes are encouraged to join in the fun with a one mile course.
  • Children ages 14 and under will receive a discounted rate of $10.
  • Fee for participants ages 15 and over is $20 per registrant.
  • One Mile Family Fun Run participants will receive a specially-designed commemorative medal, a Family Fun Run T-Shirt, and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016.

*All runners under 18 will need a parent/guardian to read and approve the electronic waiver of liability upon registration.

Race Packets:

Participants can pick up race packets on race day beginning at 6:00 a.m. or in advance at the Pirates Administrative Offices, located on the corner of Federal and West General Robinson Streets (please see dates and times below). Packets contain a runner's bib (for all participants), a timing chip for 5K and 10K runners only, a game ticket voucher, and a T-Shirt voucher.

Advance Packet and/or Tech T-Shirt Pick-up Dates and Times at the Pirates Administrative Offices:

  • April 9th and 10th: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • April 12th and 13th: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • April 15th: 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

(Please note: The Pirates are playing on April 13th and 15th at PNC Park at 7:05 p.m.)

Route:

The brand new 5K, 10K and Family Fun Run routes will be announced soon!

Post-Race Party:

All participants are invited to the post-race party that will be held on Federal Street immediately following the conclusion of the race. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided!

Start/Finish Line:

New for 2016, the 5K, 10K and Family Fun Run will start on General Robinson Street. All routes will finish on the field at PNC Park.

Tech T-Shirts/Pirates Game Tickets:

All 5K and 10K participants will receive a tech T-Shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016. Family Fun Run participants will receive a specially-designed, commemorative Family Fun Run T-Shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 16-17, May 2-4, 2016.

Top Finisher Recognition:

  • The top male and top female 5K and 10K runners in each age group will be recognized on the field prior to the Pirates vs. Cubs game on Friday, April 29th at PNC Park. Age groups are: under 15, 16-19, and 10 year age groups from 20-70+.
  • The top Team Challenge group in each category will be recognized on the field prior to the Pirates vs. Cubs game on Friday, April 29th at PNC Park. Team Challenge categories are male, female and coed.
  • #1 Pirates Fan - The participant with the most festive Pirates attire will win a customized jersey and two complimentary tickets to the Pirates/Brewers game on Saturday, April 16th.

Winner Notification:

Race results will be printed and posted on site post-race and online at pirates.com/HOMERUN by 1:30 p.m. Top finishers in each age group will be contacted via telephone/e-mail with instructions regarding details for the pregame recognition ceremony.

Timing Services:

Timing services for the Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K/10K are being provided by The Runner's High of Grove City, PA. Chips will be assigned upon registration.

Parking:

Complimentary parking will be available, courtesy of Alco Parking, for all participants in Lot 6. Lot 6 is located on General Robinson Street, directly across the street from PNC Park.

2017 Race Notification via E-Mail:

Registration for the 2016 race ensures participants will receive early notification via e-mail regarding the 2017 race.

Cancelling a Registration:

Please e-mail piratescharities@pirates.com if you have registered and cannot participate in the race. Your registration fee is non-refundable.
