About This Activity

The 2015 Morris “Doc” Turner 5K Walk Run & Health  Expo promises to be a stellar event.  The race winds through the wonderful Highland Park located in the Highland Park area Pittsburgh, PA.  The course starts at the intersection of Bunkerhill Street and One Wild Place. It then descends One Wild Place and ascends up Lake Drive and proceeds through the park.

Highland Park has a few hills, flat land, several curves and loops.  The sights include:  picnic  groves, trees of various species, a marvelous floral garden, a fantastic super playground, a new sand filled volleyball court, a large, race regulated swimming pool and a lake stocked with fish which many ducks call home. The race ends at the Highland Park Tennis Courts on Stanton Avenue where the awards ceremony and a tribute to Dr. Morris E. Turner, the namesake of this race, will occur.

Health care providers of all kinds will disseminate information about their services and products.  Negotiations are in the works to see if  some free services can be offered.  To further liven up the event, yoga, music, steel drums, exercise, tennis, food trucks and of course dancing will occur.  Those who come to cheer you on but  aren't participating in the race, will be very comfortable as they wait for your return.

Come, bring a lawn chair and be  prepared to relax and stay awhile as you rejuvenate after the race.  Feel free to take part in the activities or just sit back and chill. One thing is for certain, you will meet some wonderful people.

As an added feature, the reknown Pittsburgh Zoo will be open and ready for your visit. There is an admission fee.

UPMC Health Plan, Magee Women’s Hospital of UPMC, Allegheny Health Network, PNC Bank and the Highland Park Tennis Club are the major sponsors of this race.
