About This Activity
In October 2015, Donald Bouquio was diagnosed with Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer, the disease that claimed the life of his father in 1999. Don is an avid runner and triathelete, having planned his first charity run in July of 2015, just 3 months before his grim diagnosis. It is our hope to continue his legacy of giving by presenting the Just Breathe 5k & 10k.
While he and his family continue to battle this horrible disease, this run is being planned in his honor, with ALL PROCEEDS benefitting the Lung Cancer Alliance- a top rated non-profit organization that helps advocate for Lung Cancer patients and their grieving families and friends. While the race is being presented virtually, there will be "Hot Spots" where runners can come together and enjoy the benefits of running as part of a group. Please note: the hot spots are still very informal and will not include timers, water stations, or snacks--but bathrooms are available at the start and and designated areas along the trail. (Additional details released at a later date, please check back soon)
In Santa Rosa, California: Spring Lake- 5K & 10K trail run: Meet at Howarth Park Trail Head. A 5k and 10k path should be marked, and maps will be available by request via email. David, Don's cousin, will be there to "gather the troops" and welcome everyone. Dogs and strollers permitted for the 5k, but strollers are not recommended for the 10k.
In Binghamton, New York: Otsinango Park- 5K & 10K: Meeting by the far pavillion, a 5k and 10k trail will be marked and maps are available by request via email. The 5k will be lead off by Don's Son-in-law, Jason, and the 10k will be lead off by his friend and running partner, Phil. Dogs and Strollers are welcome for both the 5k and 10k.
In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: North Park- 5K & 10K trail run: Runners will gather at the North Park Boat House at 9am. A 5k and 10k trail will be explained and marked, and maps are available by request via email. Nicole will welcome all and then lead off the runs.
