About This Activity

TRANSYLVANIA'S 2014 FLIGHT OF THE VAMPIRE Race/Walk and Fun Run is designed to accompany the all day downtown festival.  For several years the festival always gets started by this event. Later in the day music, food, dancing, kid fun games, tours, crafts, art and much more fill the cool mountain air in one of the picturesque little towns in western NC. The race course starts at Brevard College, meandors through Main St., neighborhoods, river banks, pastures, corn fields and while viewing mountains and of course the National Forest. It is a family friendly event, one that takes at least a weekend to accomplish. For extra excursions to hiking, mountain biking, swimming, tubing, picnicing, cookouts and more, just stop by our local Chamber on Main St. for more info. Visit,

All of our three races begin the day's events on festival days in Brevard. After the race is over, just 1000 feet away is a large, very hometown festival of food, music, crafts and rides for children. There are plenty of really nice resturants located along the fesitval corridor. There is plenty to do for a family all day long. And it is just plain clean family atmosphere and always safe.

We have an enormous amount of hiking, biking trails. Plenty of campgrounds and waterfalls that will excite you to come back again. We are only 30 minutes from Biltmore Estates, 15 miles from the airport, one mile from the National Forest. One of only two cities in America where main st. connects to the National Forest directly.

We hope you will stay for a weekend, for that is the amount of time you'll need for a short visit.

Use 280 W. from I-26 or use US 64 E. if coming from the Cashiers area. If traveling up from the Greenville area, US 25 to I-26 is smarter choice, unless you know your way through Flat Rock area.

Parking will be scattered all around the zone. We will have plenty of parking attendants to assist.  Come into town on US 64/hwy 280, and use Morgan  St. to access the race start area. If coming from the Rosman, Highlands and Cashiers area, come almost to main st. and make the right turn on Morgan St.

You will sign waiver online thru Active, on mail in forms, there is one there too. The only ID required is the military ID's since they all run free.

Check the weather the day before to see how to dress. Mainly this time of year at 9am, the weather is absolutely perfect. The expected high is usually in the 60's.

The main thing a family needs to know is, it is totally a family day of fun after the race is ended. The festival is a full days worth of great value for you to travel here. Go to for more festival info. There are plenty of hiking trails, bike trails, camping, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Biltmore Estates and so much more.
