About This Activity
The 24th annual New England Half Marathon takes place on a scenic, point-to-point course during the peak of autumn. It starts on the west end of Cherry Woods State Park and, after two loops, proceeds directly south to the beautiful Willow Hills. You finish the last half mile running past an apple orchard with a live band motivating you to cross the finish line. It’s a Boston Qualifier, for those of you who are competitive.
This run is not the 24th annual New England Half Marathon. It is the Broccolini 5k & 1 Mile Run/Walk and it supports the Alport Syndrome Foundation. It was established to raise awareness for Alport Syndrome and Broccolini. We have a long history of putting on the running events over the past 8 years and are particularly proud of this one.
The Alport Syndrome Foundation is a volunteer-led organization started by families affected by this genetic kidney disease. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit Foundation that gives a voice to all those affected by Alport Syndrome and champions research to find a cure. The majority of those affected by Alport Syndrome are boys who require dialysis or a kidney transplant by their early 20s. Proceeds from fundraising will be used for outreach and patient education. Please help us make a difference in the lives of patients and families dealing with this disease. To get more information visit www.alportsyndrome.org.
It also raises awareness for Broccolini. Broccolini is often misclassified as a “young” or “baby” broccoli. In reality this is not the case. Broccolini is allowed to fully develop before it is harvested. It was created as a hybridization between broccoli and gai-lan. It is simply delicious.
This even will also benefit the Boy Scounts of America as a service project.
