About This Activity
Clarke's Listening Walk at the Zoo is a fun family event to raise awareness and support for children with hearing loss! We invite you to join Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech on May 15, 2016 as our young students and alumni, who access sound through hearing aids or cochlear implants, go on a listening scavenger hunt through the Philadelphia Zoo. They'll visit Listening Stops throughout the Zoo and will listen for sounds like the honk of a flamingo, the squeak of a bat, the hoot of an owl and more.
Each Listening Stop will feature interesting, factual information about zoo animals and and will also include facts about hearing loss as well. Clarke's Listening Walk at the Zoo will be a day of listening, learning, exploration, engagement, and fun! The day will include a 5K Run in support of Clarke, the Listening Walk, a boxed lunch, games and activities, an award ceremony, and all-day admission to the Zoo!
Here, you will be able to create your own team, join a team, or donate to the event. Don't forget-- there will be some pretty fantastic prizes for the teams that raise the most support for Clarke!
What better venue could there be for a 5K Run than the Philadelphia Zoo? You'll be cheered on by enthusiastic penguins, tigers... and children and families from Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech as you navigate this exciting, hilly course at one of the coolest spots in the City. Awards will be given out for the top three runners in age/gender categories, and your entrance fee will go to support Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, located on the campus of La Salle University. Clarke gives children who are deaf or hard of hearing the listening and spoken language skills they need to succeed.
